SURAT: Navsari rural police arrested three persons and seized a country-made pistol from them. One of the arrested persons is an aide of Mumbai-based underworld gangster D K Rao, the former associate of Chhota Rajan.
Vikrant Jadhav and Irfan Salim Shaikh, both resident Kalyan west and Rahul Dongre, a resident of of East Ulhasnagar, were nabbed from Boriach toll plaza on NH-48 when they were coming towards Navsari in a Wagon-R.
Following specific information. police stopped the car for checking at the toll plaza. Police suspect that there were four persons in the car and one had escaped before police reached. During checking, police recovered the pistol worth Rs 25,000 and seized their car.
“Police was alerted that some members of a gang, who are involved in an extortion case registered in Ulhasnagar recently, have escaped towards Gujarat . Ulhasnagar police was cracking down on the gang members when these persons escaped,” said B M Parmar, police inspector, Navsari rural police station.
Police investigation revealed that Jadhav is a shooter associated with DK Rao gang. He was arrested by Maharashtra police in the past in two cases of extortion and Arms act. The gang was trying to extort money from a person who believed to have made a killing in gold smuggling. They were going to extort money when Ulhasnagar police started making arrests of the gang members following a complaint, police sources said.
The accused were remanded to police custody for four days on Thursday.
