Santosh Sahu was arrested from his house during investigation of murder of Aakash Jena, who went missing on February 7. In fact, the accused had kidnapped the child who lived in neighbouring house in Mafat Nagar slums in the past too after misgivings cropped up between the two families.
The child knew Sahu, a cycle mechanic. Aakash’s father Praful had shifted to a new house at Kosad economic weaker section (EWS) colony, but Sahu used to still visit the family.
The child went missing on February 7 and the boy’s father lodged a complaint with police the next day. Police were not sure if the child had been kidnapped because the family did not receive any ransom call.
Meanwhile, body of the child was found in Tapi near Amboli village. Police were told by Jena family that the child used to spend a lot of time with Sahu. Police questioned the accused and he confessed to the crime.
Sahu took the child along and pushed him into Tapi. Sahu’s father Rajendra had gone missing in 2001 and the accused suspected that Praful had something to do with it. Sahu also suspected Praful to be involved in death of his elder brother Tuknadas, who died in a train accident in 2005.
Driven by suspicion, Sahu kidnapped the child from his house and took him to Kamrej in an autorickshaw and pushed him into the river from over a bridge, the police added.
