Brain-dead embroidery worker turns saviour for 4

Surat: A 60-year-old embroidery worker from Kamrej near Surat has gifted new lease of life to four persons by donating his organs on Wednesday.
Kalubhai Vadodaria, a resident of Swastik Residency at Pasodara in Kamrej, met with an accident near Navjeen Hotel while he was going to the embroidery unit at Baroda Prestige on January 23. Vadodaria, who sustained severe head injuries, was shifted to G B Vaghani Multispeciality Hospital, where he was detected with a major clot in the brain and his heart had stopped functioning. On Wednesday, the doctors declared him brain dead and informed the relatives about the further procedure.
Doctors at the hospital were successful in convincing his family for donating his organs. Once the family members were convinced, the doctors contacted Donate Life volunteers. The Donate Life volunteers visited the hospital and met the family members of the brain dead patient, including his brothers and wife, and convinced them for cadaver donation.
Ahmedabad-based Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research and Centre (IKDRC) team led by Dr Pranjal Modi accepted the donation of kidneys and liver, while the eyes were donated to Lokdrashti eye bank in the city.
His two kidneys were transplanted into Manisha Modi (37) from Siddhpur and liver was transplanted into Ahmedabad-based Dhruti Kanojiya (27).
Till now, Donate Life has received donations of 237 kidneys, 96 livers, 6 pancreas, 16 heart and 200 corneas.
