Woman, auto driver booked for theft

Surat: A woman and an autorickshaw driver were booked at Umra police station on Wednesday for stealing jewellery worth Rs30,000 of a 72-year-old woman from Gaviyar village near Dumas.
Complainant Kunwarben Aahir had boarded the autorickshaw from Vanita Vishram Ground on Wednesday night and within a few minutes her jewellery was stolen.
She had shared the ride with the accused woman. As the autorickshaw moved a few meters and reached Athwa Gate, the accused claimed that her purse has been stolen. She alleged that the complainant was involved in the theft and carried out a check of Aahir's bag and purse. She stole the valuables without Aahir's knowledge while checking her bag.
