GAPM: Bogus pathology labs playing with people’s lives

Surat: Gujarat Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists (GAPM) has asked the state government to get all illegal laboratories in the state closed at once as they are playing with the health of people.
GAPM cited Supreme Court's verdict of December 12, 2017 which said reports of laboratories without the signatures of qualified doctors registered under the Medical Council of India would be illegal. GAPM said on December 30, 2017 it had provided the director general of police of the state a list of 242 illegal laboratories located in 24 cities of Gujarat. "If the police don't take any action against these laboratories, we would approach the court," a GAPM spokesman said.
GAPM officials said in 2008 orders to close such laboratories were given by the state government but they were not implemented, forcing them to go to court.
