SMC seals Memon Hall for changing purpose of use

Surat: Officials of the central zone of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) sealed Morbi Tankara Memon Hall on Monday. This step was taken as the property that was developed as a residential unit was used for community functions such as marriages and other celebrations.
An official from the central zone said development permission was given to this property for residential purpose in Shahpor area of ward 12 of Surat city. However, owners were using it as marriage venue and celebration of other social functions.
"The change in purpose of use caused frequent traffic jams apart from noise pollution and parking issues. We had received large number of complaints from the locals of the area. On inspection it was found to be used for purposes other than residential. So we have sealed the property," an SMC official said.
