Police arrested Anita Ashok Rana, 38; Kanchan Champak Rana, 71; Nayna Paresh Rana, 35; and Ashok alias Doku Champak Rana, 40, for attacking the cops. The accused were booked under Indian Penal Codes sections 307 (attempt to murder), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from doing his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 189 (threat of injury to public servant), 341 (wrongful restraint), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Mukesh Talshi lodged the complaint at Mahidharpura police station in this connection.
Police had gone to Rana Sheri in Begampura on getting information about bootlegging activity at around 6.15pm when the accused did not allow them to check their premises. When the police used force, they threw an adhesive on the cops, some of which fell on the face of police inspector D K Patel. The police officer had to be taken to hospital for examination.
The accused later used a big piece of glass to attack the cops. A head constable suffered an injury in hand. The incident rattled the cops as bootleggers normally don't attack a police team.
"The adhesive was used since it sticks to body and can injure a person seriously when removed. The adhesive was sprinkled on the face of the cop. Had it gone into the eyes of the officer, it would have caused him a major injury," police said.
