SURAT: Four automatic teller machines (ATM) of banks were targeted by some unidentified burglars in city's Sachin GIDC and Udhna areas early on Sunday. Of the four the theft was successful in three. The burglars escaped with total cash Rs 94.86 lakh. Police got some specific leads during investigation, but there are no breakthrough so far.
Three ATMs including two of Axiz Bank and one of ICICI bank were targeted in Sachin GIDC area. From the ICICI Bank ATM cash amounting to Rs 43,02,300 was stolen while the burglars failed to steal any cash from neighbouring ATM in Rameshwar Colony. In another ATM of Axis Bank at Vishal Nagar, cash amounting to Rs 8.85 lakh was stolen.
In the theft reported in Udhna area, the burglars stole cash from ATM of Axis Bank near Shiv Krupa Industrial Community Hall in Hari Nagar at around 4am. Burglars damaged the CCTV camera first and later stole the cash. The burglars cut the ATM chest and stole Rs 42,99,300 in cash.
Police are yet to detect two ATM theft incidents reported in Mahidharpura and Chowk Bazaar area on September 25. Police is taking help of dog squad and forensic science laboratory (FSL) to gather evidences.
