SURAT: A woman has accused her late husband's former partner and his three family members of cheating her to the tune of Rs 2.86 crore during last two years.
According to the complaint registered by Shobha Agarwal living at Shreepal Residency on City Light Road, her late husband Aashish Agarwal had partnered with Mehul Pithawala and three other members of his family for putting up a project of bungalows in a land near the airport in March 2015.
For this project, Agarwal had paid Rs 3.21 crore to Pithawala. However, for two years the project did not take off and Aashish Agarwal passed away.
According to the complaint, when Shobha demanded the money back, Pithawala paid her Rs 35 lakh. When she asked for the remaining Rs 2.86 crore she was shown a piece of land which is at present in the ownership of the Airport Authority of India (AAI).
Police have registered a case under IPC sections 406,409, 420 and 114 against Pithawala and three others. An official from Umra police station said that investigations had begun. However, nobody has been arrested.
