Oil theft racket busted in Surat, three held

Surat: The state monitoring cell of Gujarat police busted a petrol and diesel theft racket in Kawas of Surat on Saturday. Police nabbed Girish Khoda Patel, a resident of Punagam, Shakeel Ramzan Shaikh, a resident of Limbayat, and Mithilesh Aahir, a resident of Dindoli, when they were stealing fuel from tankers in parking area located close to India Oil depot in Kawas.

Key accused Tosif Haider Mansuri, a resident of Unn, managed to escaped. A manhunt has been launched to nab him. The racket was being run in collusion with drivers of the tankers.

The state monitoring cell raided the spot and seized 140 litres of petrol and diesel, 19 empty plastic containers, a tanker with 12,000 litre of diesel and mobile phones together worth Rs 21.85 lakh.

Police investigation revealed Tosif had convinced drivers to park the tankers at the specific location to help them carry out the theft. The drivers were offered money for allowing them to steal the oil. The accused opened the locks of the tankers with master keys with them.

The arrested accused and the seized material were handed over to Ichhapore police station. A complaint has been registered at the police station and investigations begun.
