Surat: A 28-year-old woman was stabbed to death by an unidentified person at her house in Limbayat area of the city on Saturday. It was initially registered as a case of accidental death at Limbayat police station when the woman's husband Vinod J Maurya informed police. However, injury marks on the woman's body and subsequent postmortem report made the police convert it into a murder case.
Vimladevi suffered from epileptic seizures and reportedly used to punish herself. Vinod approached police on October 21 and said his wife had an epileptic seizure and fell on the ground and died. The police found injury marks on her cheek bones and throat and subsequent postmortem on the body revealed that the woman had been killed with a sharp object.
"We have started our investigation in the case. Some people, including the woman's family members, are under suspicion," a police officer said, adding that they could make a couple of arrests soon.
Maurya had two wives. His one wife lives in his hometown in Uttar Pradesh. Vimladevi was his second wife and the couple had frequent fights, the police officer added.
