Surat: Flowers can lift spirits and their fragrance can promote beautiful emotions in a person. The people of the city would soon have a unique moon garden which will give them a feeling of gratification when they visit it.
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to develop a moon garden on 30,000 square metre land in Amroli area of the city. The civil work for developing the garden, which will have at least 50 night-blooming flower plants, has started near Utran Power station in Amroli. Horticulture work at the garden is expected to begin soon.
The moon garden will mainly have white flowers, bright foliage, night bloomer and fragrant bloomer plants. Chameli, champa, jasmine, plumaria, rose, parijat, gardonia, tube rose, white butterfly ginger, tagar, lavan, night queen, sweet pea, kevda and sweet alyssum among other night-blooming flower plants would also adorn the garden.
"The basic essence behind developing a moon garden is to provide a beautiful landscape to people. It would be full of natural light," SMC garden superintendent S J Gautam said. There will be food stalls and hangouts around the garden for the people. It could well become a night recreation spot in the city.
In the last few years, the civic body has developed many theme-based gardens. If Shanti Vans were developed with elderly citizens in mind, then lake gardens are meant for recreation. The civic body has also developed palm garden, botanical garden, rose garden, tulsi vans, oxygen corners and vertical gardens at different places in the city. The moon garden would be a night time delight for the people.
