Surat: A doctor was booked for raping a woman belonging to scheduled tribe from March 2016 to October 2017 in Dindoli area of the city on Thursday.
The woman alleged that Virendra Patel, who ran Shree Sai Hospital and Maternity House, established physical relationship with her and made a video clip which he was using to blackmail her, the police said.
A case under IPC Section 376(2) (D) (E) and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act Sections 3(2) (5-A) 3(2) (5) was registered against the doctor at Dindoli police station after the woman approached the police.
The case has been handed over to assistant commissioner of police B Division for investigation. A police officer said, "We have started investigation in the case. The rape survivor worked in the maternity home being run by accused. However, till now no video clip that was reportedly made by the doctor has been recovered, but we are confident of seizing it." tnn
