Surat: Surat police have arrested four persons for manhandling an assistant sub-inspector of police on October 4 night in Chowk Bazaar area of the city.
Abdul Razzak Bombaywala, Salman alias Salman Dudhgulam Tailor, Javid Haroon Memon and Mahomad Amir Jariwala were produced before a local court and it remanded them in police custody for a day. The four were booked under IPC Sections 143,146, 149, 332, 353, 186 and 504.
ASI Iswar Chaudhary was on duty when a four-wheel vehicle approached from station side and tried to turn towards Kamal Gali, which is a one-way street. The driver tried to remove the barricade and when he was stopped, he accused the police officer of calling him a terrorist. Soon, a crowd of 50 people gathered and manhandled Chaudhary at the spot.
Police could identify the four accused from the CCTV footage. "We arrested the four on the basis of electronic evidence. More would be nabbed soon," a police officer said.
