SURAT: Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) Surat convener Alpesh Kathiriya and his associates were booked in Amroli police station on Thursday for attempt to murder. The accused have attacked a 40 year old BJP supporter on Wednesday night.
Police booked Kathiriya and his 20 associates for allegedly attacking Kalpesh Devani, a businessman, while he was campaigning for BJP. The accused allegedly arrived at office of Devani with knife, iron pipe and sticks at around 11 pm on Wednesday in Mota Varachha area and attacked the complainant.
Devani alleged that he is actively involved in campaigning of BJP candidate during the election because of which he was targetted by the accused PAAS members. However, preliminary police investigation revealed that the complainant was attacked for making an insulting video of Patidar community leaders. The complainant shared the video on social media after which the PAAS members had warned him and on Wednesday they attacked Devani.
The victim suffered injuries on head, ear and right hand. He suffered minor injuries on body. Registering a complaint police started investigation. No arrests have been made in the case so far. Kathiriya was booked in various rioting cases in Surat during 2015 Patidar reservation movement.
