Udvada would be made global tourist destination, says Naidu

Surat: Parsi community has contributed immensely towards India becoming the third largest economy in the world today, vice-president Venkaiah Naidu said on Monday. Ratan Tata, Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw, Madam Cama, Dadabhai Naoroji, Nani Palkhiwala, Soli Jehangir Sorabjee and JRD Tata are names of some of the people from the community who not only inspire Parsis, but each new generation of Indians, the vice-president said.
"There is unity in diversity in Parsi language. It creates a new culture with Sanskrit. Elements of a global culture are there in Parsi language," Naidu said addressing community members on the concluding day of the three-day Iranshah Udvada Utsav at Udvada in Valsad district.
He honoured Padma Bhushan Dr Farukh Duvadiya on the occasion by presenting him a shawl and said it is the endeavour of the government to make Udvada a global destination. It was in 1742 that Parsis landed at Udvada from Iran and they then made India their karmabhoomi. "Now state and central governments are making efforts to convert Udvada into a global destination," he said appealing to all communities to work together for the creation of a new India.
Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastur Kekobad Dastoor welcomed all and promised contribution of members of his community in all fields. A number of top officials from Daman and Valsad districts and also elected representatives attended the event.
