Man shot dead, Rs 1.34L looted in Hazira

Surat: A 20-year-old man running a money transfer service was shot dead by two unidentified assailants on Friday night at Mora on Suvali Road in Hazira. His cousin brother, who was with him, was thrashed by robbers and injured badly. The robbers escaped with Rs 1,34,500 cash that the victim was carrying. Initially, eyewitnesses and police had no clue that the victim had been shot and believed he died when hit by a stone.
Umesh Ramashih Singh (20) was going with his cousin Sunil Mola Singh (34) on a motorcycle when they were attacked by the robbers. Umesh was shot in the chest and also hit with a stone. The robbers had attacked the victims with stones to stop them. Both the victims suffered injuries on their bodies from the stones. They were shifted to a hospital where Umesh was declared dead, while Sunil is under treatment. Police questioned Sunil for several hours as he was also one of the suspects in the case before they booked the assailants for murder and robbery. A bullet was found in Umesh' body during postmortem. The police suspect the bullet was fired from a country-made pistol and are examining it.
Umesh and Sunil were going home after closing the office of their money transfer business. They were on Mora to Suvali village road on the stretch towards Star Residency when they were attacked at around 9.15 pm. Sunil told the police that one person came out from the bushes and threw a stone which hit Umesh on chest and they fell on the ground.
"We are working in different directions. So far we have not got any clear direction to our investigation," the police said.
