Police booked seven people for attacking seven people on road after 9.30 pm between Veni Nath underpass to Mota Varachha on Sunday. The robbers had targeted people travelling on motorcycles and in car and looted them of their valuables.
A businessman Pravin Maniya (47) was going with his wife on a motorcycle when one of the robbers came out from the bushes in a farm and hit him with a blunt wooden object on face. Maniya lost control and fell on road when the attacker again hit him. However, he managed to control the attacker but by then other robbers had emerged from the bushes and escaped after looting the valuables of the couple.
Later, the robbers stopped and damaged a couple of cars and motorcycles and looted five other travellers. Altogether, the loss of the seven victims was Rs 1 lakh and one complaint was registered.
Earlier on December 1, dacoity of Rs 66,500 was carried out near Pasodara village under the limits of Sarthana police station of the city. Some robbers looted Rs 70,500 from commuters on road between Khambhasla and Saniya villages on the outskirts of the city on December 4. An offence was registered at Sachin police station. In both the incidents the robbers had attacked commuters and looted them of their possessions.
"We are yet to arrest anyone involved in the dacoity. We are investigating the case and focusing on people who had used similar modus operandi in the past," the police said.
