Five ruffians hurt in clash between Surya and Bariya gangs

Surat: Members of Surya Marathi and Manu Dahya Bariya gangs attacked each other with sharp-edged weapons and blunt objects resulting in injuries to five people in an area under the limits of Katargam police station here on Monday night. One of the gangs later attacked those injured in the clash who were undergoing treatment at Prannath Hospital.
Marathi is currently in jail for the murder of Dahya, but gangs of both these gangsters are still operating in the city.
Three offences were registered at Katargam police station on Tuesday with regard to the previous night's clash between members of the two gangs near Kamal Studio in Vijay Nagar of Katargam. The exact reason behind the clash is not known, but five people suffered stab wounds and police arrested nine miscreants after registering complaints of both the groups. Police recovered CCTV footages from the area to identify those involved in the clash.
Police said Kalpesh Kadam and his friends of Surya Marathi gang were attacked by Bharat Mewada and others at around 11.30 pm on Monday and members of both the groups suffered injuries. Immediately after the attack, Kadam and two others were admitted to Prannath Hospital for treatment of their stab wounds. The rival gang arrived at the hospital to attack Kadam and his friends. The gang members injured some hospital staff as well.
"These gangs of history-sheeters operate in Vijay Nagar and Indira Nagar slums in Katargam. They have clashed with each other in the past too. They live in same locality and often fight with each other over petty issues," the police said.
Manu Dahya Bariya was shot dead by Marathi and his associates in 2016. Both the gangs mediate in land disputes and are involved in extortion and assaults and enjoy the support of some real estate business groups.
