Munaf Khan Saheb Khan, a resident of Kadodara near Sai Complex, consumed 18 sleeping pills in the parking area of police commissionerate because some people were harassing him and police were not taking action against them.
Khan, who is a labourer, had attempted suicide earlier too in November by consuming sleeping pills in the compound of police commissionerate, but was saved. He told the police that two women — Mariam and Shabana — had borrowed Rs 35,000 from him and were not returning him the money. When he put pressure on them, the women called him to a location and got him beaten up by some persons. Khan then approached the police with his complaint, but the women levelled allegations of harassment against him. They reached a compromise and Khan decided to return to his native place in Jehanabad in Bihar.
He arrived in the city a couple of months ago and went to the two women to demand his money.
The women refused to pay him the money after which Khan reached the police commissionerate and consumed sleeping pills in November. Frustrated at not being able to get his money, he again consumed sleeping pills on Friday.
"We have registered a formal report and a case will be registered after a detailed investigation by us. We are investigating the case to find out the facts," assistant commissioner of police, Surat, J K Pandya said.
