SURAT: Sarthana police have registered an offence of murder of a man who was found dead under mysterious circumstances here in June 2017. A case of accidental death was registered initially when the man died after falling from third floor of a building's empty lift pit. The father of the deceased approached the court, which directed the police to register a case of murder and begin investigations.
Raju Prasad was allegedly pushed into the lift pit from the third floor of Meera Avenue building in Sarthana on 20 June, 2017, by a group of people. The man suffered serious injuries to which he later succumbed. Police described it as accidental death and closed the case.
However, Chunnuprasad Kevat (54), father of the deceased, approached the court and submitted that his son had been murdered. The application was filed before the civil court, which asked the police to register a case under CRPC Section 154(3). An offence of murder under IPC Sections 302, 120(B) and 201 was registered at Sarthana police station on December 20, 2017.
Nete Shivnarayan Kevat, Lalman Kevat, Ramesh alias Boss Kevat and 12 people have been made accused in the case. The victims' father alleged that his son was called to the third floor of the building by the accused as he owed Rs 30,000 to Nete Kevat.
