Surat: Two women belonging to the same family were mowed down by Rajdhani Express at Vapi on Thursday evening. The train doesn't stop at Vapi and was heading in full speed towards its destination to New Delhi from Mumbai when the two women came under it while trying to cross the railway line from under the bridge. Locals said two other women accompanying them were saved by people when they pulled them away from the railway track on time. The women were not aware that Rajdhani Express was coming towards them when they set out to cross the track.
A government railway police officer said, "The incident occurred at around 6.55 pm and both the victims died on the spot."
The deceased were identified as Rehana Shakil Khan (55) and Nazima Khan (24), residents of Astha Heights, Bhopali Nagar in Vapi. Family members of the deceased soon reached Vapi railway station on learning about the accident.
