The inquiry report was submitted by assistant commissioner of police, D division, B C Thakkar on Monday. Based on the report, the ASI, posted at Chowk Bazaar police station, was suspended by in-charge deputy commissioner of police, zone III, Bhagirath Gadhvi.
"The ASI has been found guilty of misconduct in the report submitted by the inquiring officer. I instructed the DCP to suspend the ASI on the basis of the report," joint commissioner of police, sector I, Harekrishna Patel said.
About the need for the ASI to show pistol to a petrol pump attendant, Patel said, "It is possible that the ASI may have taken out the pistol in self-defence. Detail investigation will reveal the facts under what circumstances he took out the pistol. We have taken back the pistol from the ASI."
Petrol pump attendant Pankaj Singh Rajput was allegedly thrashed and threatened by the ASI on December 22 at a petrol pump at Ved Road. Rajput submitted an application to city police commissionerate on December 23 levelling allegations against the police officer. The entire issue came to light as CCTV video footage of the incident went viral on social media.
The cop and his associates had tried to pressurize the victim to not register a police complaint in the matter, Rajput alleged in his complaint. Police did not take strict action in the matter and only registered a non-cognizable offence, but without naming the ASI. Police are yet to seek court's directives for further action since it is a non-cognizable offence lodged at Chowk Bazaar police station.
