The complaint was lodged by manager of Pravin Ishwar Angadiya Nayan Patel with Mahidharpura police station on Wednesday. The firm operates in Mahidharpura area and they receive and send parcels to various locations.
At around 11.30 am on Tuesday, two staffers were supposed to deliver bags of parcel at different locations in the city. A deliveryman Rahul was standing at Parsi Sheri in Mahidharpura with the bags, while his colleague went to get the motorcycle parked at a some distance. Seeing Rahul standing alone, two men approached him and introduced themselves as officials from IB. They asked Rahul to come along with them to check if the parcels contained some suspicious material. They took him to a nearby shop, where there was no coverage of CCTV cameras and started removing the packets from the bag. They diverted his attention and stole some jewellery. They allowed him to go with the parcels.
Rahul went to deliver the parcels to Om Ornaments, Shree Chintamani Ornaments and Zinwar Ornaments, whose staffers noticed that the number of jewellery pieces were less than expected. They called up the angadiya firm that conducted the detailed investigation. They lodged a complaint after finding that their deliveryman was fleeced. The accused were booked for criminal breach of trust, cheating and personating as public servant.
"We have recovered CCTV footages from the spot and attempts are being made to identify the four persons. We are also trying to check if any cheating with similar modus operandi was done in the recent past," the police official said.
