Surat: City police have made elaborate security arrangements for polling day on Saturday. Over 10,000 police, home guard and paramilitary force personnel will be on duty to ensure peaceful polling in the city.
Security will be ensured at 810 buildings where polling will take place and important locations at total 13 assembly constituencies of city and rural areas of the district. "Tight security arrangements will be made at 458 polling stations identified as sensitive. Furthermore, 15 special teams from detection of crime branch, prevention of crime branch and special operations group will keep close watch on sensitive areas of Kamrej, Varachha, Amroli and other places," city police commissioner Satish Sharma said.
Police have set up 11 checkposts at entry points and are being assisted by 41 flying squads. As a part of preventive measure, police have detained 8,665 people till now and will continue to detain persons with criminal history. Police also launched a prohibition drive in which 3,400 cases of prohibition were registered and 3,462 people arrested.
"Police are keeping a close watch over the situation and we will ensure that polling takes place without any disturbance. Police are prepared to deal with any situation. We will ensure there is peaceful situation on polling day," Sharma added.tnn
