Bullet train a failed dream of Modi: NFIR

Surat: National Federation of Indian Railways (NFIR) general secretary Dr M Raghavaiah on Thursday termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's bullet train project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai as a failed dream.

Dr Raghavaiah, who was in the city to attend railway union's sammelan, said, "Modi government will spend Rs1 lakh crore for bringing bullet train to India. Japan is not giving the bullet train free. Actually they are here to loot our country. I want to appeal to Narendra Modi to rather give priority to strengthening the railway infrastructure and its system. Bullet train could be a reality in 2035 when our country becomes a developed nation. Modi can then think of running bullet train and give it to Ambani."

Raghavaiah said Modi should infuse the Rs1 lakh crore funds earmarked for bullet train to strengthen the signalling equipment and tracks, improve the speed of trains up to 160 kilometre per hour and condition of locomotive engines.

The NFIR and Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh (WRMS) have threatened to launch an indefinite strike from July 1, 2018, for revision of minimum wages to Rs 26,000 per month, guaranteed pension, abolishing New Pension Scheme and filling up of 2.60 lakh vacant posts in the railways.
