Surat: In a first, each of the 16 constituencies in Surat district will have one polling booth with all women staff 'sakhi booth'.
Polling will take place at total 4,397 booths in 16 constituencies of which 43 booths are auxiliary. "The auxiliary booths are set up where the voters exceed 1,400. It will be set up at the same location with same number, but an additional alphabet for identity," Patel added.
On 327 booths, micro observers will keep eye on the situation and they will report directly to the observer of that constituency. "At 483 polling booths video recording will be done and at 232 live video will be webcast to the offices of Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi and Gandhinagar," he added.
The teams on election duty will be given details of the place of their duty on Friday morning. The polling staff will be given a list to operate VVPAT machine and other devices. "Total 38.36 lakh voter's slips have been delivered at the door step of voters out of 40.28 lakh registered voters. Undelivered slips will be kept in sealed covers," the collector said.
Two counting centres have been setup at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) near Piplod and at S & S S Ghandhy Engineering College near Majura Gate on December 18. The control rooms of Election Commission will be operational in the city 24 hours. "The election officials have been provided with a mobile application and all election related work is being done through that application RONet," Patel added.
"As per directives, we have set up one polling station each with all women staff in each constituency of Surat. Along with four polling staff, the security personnel will also be women," Surat collector Mahendra Patel.
