Builder accused of rape alleges extortion by telemarketer woman

SURAT: A 22-year-old woman, who works as a telemarketer, has accused a 47-year-old real estate developer Alpesh Patel of rape and lodged a complaint with the detection of crime branch (DCB). Meanwhile, the realtor, a resident of Adajan, has claimed that he has been framed in fake rape case by the woman to extort money.

DCB booked Patel on Monday for allegedly raping the woman in Lonavla, Maharashtra, on November 2. She had gone to Lonavala with Patel, a doctor and his girlfriend. In her complaint, the woman alleged that she was made to drink beer during their stay at a resort and later she was raped during their three-day stay.

The woman further alleged that Patel did not answer her calls or messages after returning to Surat. They fought over the issue at her residence and she even tried to kill herself by drinking poisonous substance. But Patel assured her that he will continue the relationship.

"Patel again tried to break the relationship and the woman felt that he will not marry her as promised, hence she lodged the complaint," the police said.

On the other hand, based on complaint filed by Patel, police booked the woman, her mother and a family friend for allegedly extorting cash and valuables worth lakhs. Patel stated in the complaint that woman threatened to lodge a rape complaint against him if her demands were not met. She had demanded Rs 13 lakh in cash, a SUV, a scooter, air conditioner, fridge and furniture worth lakhs of rupees.

The woman also used her pictures with Patel to threaten him. She also threatened to commit suicide and hold Patel responsible for her suicide. Police said the woman also demanded an apartment from Patel.

Police investigation revealed that the woman had come in touch with Patel during a telemarketing call. They started talking to each other over phone regularly. During those conversations, they developed friendship and met each other. The friendship developed further into physical relationship, the police investigation revealed.
