Surat: An unidentified burglar was booked at Katargam police station on Sunday for stealing cash and jewellery worth Rs 1.98 lakh from a house in D K Nagar Society in Katargam here. Police suspect role of an insider in the theft of cash and valuables from the house.
Mansukh Parsaniya (63) told police in his complaint that he came to know about the theft at around 6.30 am on Sunday. Police are trying to find out how the burglar entered the first floor of the house and carried out the theft without anyone in the family coming to know about it.
The family had taken the jewellery out of a bank locker on Friday to use it for a marriage function on Saturday. Parsaniya family returned from marriage late night and kept the jewellery in the cupboard. "The cupboard was not locked. We did not find any damage on the cupboard. The back door could have left open since there is no sign of damage on the doors as well," the police said.
"Only family members were aware about valuables in the house that night and they were supposed to be deposited in the bank locker the next day," said the police adding that the burglar escaped with Rs 20,000 cash kept in the trousers pocket of the complainant.
