Surat: Son of a restaurant owner and some unidentified men were booked at Kapodara police station on Tuesday for the alleged murder of a 35-year-old man. The accused thrashed the man when he went to the restaurant to beg food and was without clothes. The man was rescued and taken to Kapodara police station, but he hanged himself in the bathroom there and declared dead at the hospital.
Police booked Sidharth alias Pappu Kakadiya and unidentified persons for thrashing the unidentified person who arrived at the fast food joint of Kakadiya's father Vallabhbhai on November 25 without clothes. He was refused food, but he kept standing there, which angered Kakadiya, who thrashed him along with some other men.
They tied the man to a streetlight pole and thrashed him for a while before a person alerted the police. A police van reached the spot and rescued the man. He was questioned by the police about his identity, but he could not provide much details to them. The man was found to be of unsound mind. Meanwhile, the man told the policemen that he wanted to use toilet and was taken there. He did not come out of the toilet and when the cops went to check, they found him hanging.
The man had used a cloth to hang self from a hook on the wall of the toilet. He was shifted to Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER), where he was declared dead. Police raised some queries with hospital authorities about the preliminary postmortem report to ascertain if the man had died due to thrashing or hanging.
"It was clarified by the hospital that there were multiple injuries on the body of the deceased and that they had led to his death," deputy commissioner of police, Zone I, R P Barot said. Accused Kakadiya and others are yet to be arrested.
