SURAT: Union finance minister Arun Jaitley came down heavily on Pakistan for releasing the 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed during his visit to the city on Sunday.
Jaitley said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi received civil disobedience in Jammu and Kashmir as gift when he assumed office in 2014. Even small incidents in Kashmir would result in people taking to streets in huge numbers and pelting stones at the armed forces. Terrorists would kill and attack any time and Hurriyat leaders would call for bandh every now and then."
Jaitley added, "The situation has changed from the last eight to 10 months. Our armed forces and police of Jammu and Kashmir have restored normalcy. Our intelligence network has been restored in interior villages. Those who become commander of Lashker know well that they are not going to last for three to four months."
Jaitley welcomed the decision by the Prime Minister to celebrate Navy Day to remember the valour and courage of the armed forces in protecting the country.
"Our democracy is our strength and power, thus elections here become the festival of democracy. India's Constitution was adopted on November 26 many years ago. Today, we have a government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. You have to ask this question, have we not received world recognition? India's strength is now recognized. This is all due to the Modi government," Jaitley added.
Addressing people at 'maan ki baat' programme organized by city unit of the BJP, Jaitley said, "This ill-fated day has been recorded in the history when India's economic capital, Mumbai, was attacked by the enemies of our country. Two days ago, they (Pakistan) released the mastermind of 26/11 and the world is saying in one voice that the nation which supports terrorism has no place to remain in the world's family. They (Pakistan) have been disowned by the world for protecting terrorists."
