Surat: Parents protesting against high fees at SD Jain School on Tuesday got support from different political parties, including the ruling BJP. Till date the parents did not get any political support ever since the agitation began eight months ago.
An independent candidate from Choriyasi seat and BJP rebel Ajay Chaudhary also joined the protest. "The parents are demanding that the school collect fees as per limits prescribed by the government. But there is no end to their fight, which is on since last several months," Chaudhary said.
Congress candidate from Choriyasi seat Yogesh Patel also joined the parents. Candidate of Yuva Democratic Party from Katargam Umesh Panchal and Jitu Patel of Koli Samaj Parivartan Trust (KSPT) also came and joined the protest.
After few hours of protest, BJP municipal councillor from Ichhanath-Dumas ward Hitendra alias Hitesh Gamit also joined the gathering. One of Gamit's supporter entered into a verbal spat with Jitu Patel of KSPT during the protest. He tried to pressurize Patel not to bring Koli community in the issue.
On coming to know about visit of candidates from other political parties, BJP MLA from Majura Harsh Sanghvi came to meet the parents in the afternoon.
After the parents started gathering at the school on Tuesday, political leaders from different parties joined them in support. Congress candidate from Majura seat Ashok Kothari came with his supporters and sat on dharna outside the school.
"I am also a parent and suffering due to the high fees charged by the schools. These parents are protesting against the fee hike since last several months, but there is no solution to it," Kothari said.
