Emboldened by thumping response from the community to his Wednesday's Rajkot public gathering, Hardik will hold a mega road show through 'Jan Kranti Maharally', which will cover almost half of the city throughout the day. After the road show, Hardik will address a public meeting in Yogi Chowk in Saurashtra-Patidar dominated Kapodara, which had witnessed heavy violence in 2015.
Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) has sought permission for the road show and rally, but the conveners said they will go ahead even if they don't get the district administration and police nod. Rajkot event was held despite the district collector withdrawing the permission.
"We will organize the event even if we don't get permission like we have done at other places. We are hopeful that the police will give us permission," PAAS convener in Surat Dharmik Malaviya said.
The road show will begin at Gajera Circle in Katargam and go up to the northern end of city in Jahangirpura. It will then reach Varachha through Adajan and go up to Sarthana. The rally will cover Saurashtrian Patel-dominated Nana Varachha and Mota Varachha before culminating at Yogi Chowk.
"We are expecting that over 1 lakh people will join the rally. We are trying to cover all the areas where Patidar population is living. We are getting open support by many community leaders and we look forward to arrange a massive show of strength," Malaviya said.
BJP and Congress has fielded 11 Patidars in 12 Surat city seats with a direct fight in four seats namely Varachha, Kamrej, Katargam and Surat (north). Campaigning in the Patidar areas is still a tough task for BJP leaders, who face frequent disruptions by the community mob.
Before the Rajkot event, Hardik had addressed a farmers rally in Khakhrechi, around 40 km from Morbi, where Modi was addressing a gathering. Earlier in 2016, BJP national president Amit Shah had to end his speech in just four minutes and leave the venue in Abrama at an event to felicitate BJP leaders following ruckus created by the Patidars.
