Teacher booked for defaming ex-employer on social media

SURAT: An Ahmedabad-based teacher was booked on Wednesday for allegedly sharing defamatory messages on social media and getting published derogatory statements in some local media about his previous employer after he was sacked from the job for allegedly insulting a girl student.

Umra police booked Viral Patel, a resident of Paldi in Ahmedabad, for allegedly circulating defamatory messages against his previous employer. He was booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) and under Sections of Information Technology Act. The complaint was lodged by president of Shreeji Kelavni Mandal Jagdish Patel.

In his complaint, Patel alleged that Viral started sharing defamatory messages over Facebook and WhatsApp since June. He also claimed on social media that he was facing threat to his life. He also got some defamatory material published in local media.

"The accused had planned to malign the trust, where he was previously employed. He seems to have resorted to such activity as he was upset over being fired from job as teacher for objectionable behaviour with girls," the police said.

Patel's trust runs a private institute that prepares Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students for competitive exams.

"After being sacked from the job, Viral set up his own educational institute in Surat," the police said.
