Surat: Congress candidate from Vagra in Bharuch district Suleman Patel's video of his alleged interaction with people of Pipaliya village under his constituency has gone viral on social media, triggering a controversy.
In the alleged video clip Patel is seen with his supporters in Pipliya village near Vagra. They are heard having interaction over number of issues.
During the discussion, a voice is heard saying: "We all have to work on December 9 and go to polling booth to cast vote in favour of Congress in any condition. After one day's work, we will do 'dadagiri' for the next five years and all our work will be done."
Patel told TOI, "These words were not spoken by me. It was one of our workers. He said it in a lighter moment that after victory we can do 'dadagiri' to get our work done."
"Unfortunately, some elements from the opposition edited the video to highlight the wrong message," he said. This constituency of 1.71 lakh voters has 58,882 minority voters. It also has 46,297 Scheduled Tribe voters and 24,106 Koli Patel voters, while number of Scheduled Caste voters was 10,392. Patel and Rajput communities constitute 9,500 voters each.
In the video, Patel is heard telling his supporters that they he needs to work only for a day (polling day) and do 'dadagiri' for the next five years. Patel, however, said the voice in the video was not his, but of one of his supporters.
