SURAT: A major fire erupted in Surat wholesale Sahakari Mandli located near New Sardar Market here on Thursday evening. It took more than 2.30 hours for the fire brigade personnel to douse the fire. There were no casualties, sources said.
The fire started at around 4.40 pm on Thursday. It spread quickly and about 20 fruit shops were gutted in the fire. Approximately 15 tonnes of apples, five tonnes of other fruits, CCTV camera system of the mandli and more than 8,000 plastic boxes were reduced to ashes. "We sent seven tankers with full staff to douse the fire. It took us about 2.30 hours to douse the fire completely," a fire brigade officer said.
