Surat: An officer of a private company and a customs officer posted in Navsari lost their lives in separate road accidents on highways on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday.
Umang Manoj Parikh (28), a resident of Palsana village near city, died while being shifted to a hospital in 108 ambulance. He was seriously injured after his car crashed into a truck which was coming from wrong side at around 9.30 am near Bhatiya toll booth on National Highway 53.
Parikh, a native of Indore in Madhya Pradesh, was an employee of Parle Products. He was going to Sachin GIDC from Palsana when the accident occurred. Parikh was going to get married in January next year.
The other accident involved 47-year-old Rajiv Kapoor (47), a resident of Ghod Dod Road. Kapoor, a customs officer in Navsari, was returning to the city in the afternoon when his car crashed into a truck coming from opposite direction near Lajpore on Navsari-Surat Highway. He died on the spot due to severe injuries. His body was shifted to New Civil Hospital for postmortem. Police investigation revealed that one of the tyres of Kapoor's car burst and he lost control over the vehicle which crashed into the truck.
