SURAT: Police arrested two men for cheating a 26-year-old driver living in Dindoli area of the city of Rs 1.50 lakh on Saturday. The accused lured the victim by telling him that they can help him get Rs 1 crore through tantrik rituals.
Police also booked Prabhat of Shehra in Godhra and Ramdas alias Maharaj from Ratlam district in Madhya Pradesh for duping a private car driver Ishwar Thakre in August. Thakre was put in contact with Subhash by Himmat to get money through tantric rituals. Subhash later introduced the victim to other accused and they offered to organize tantrik rituals to help him get Rs 1crore in cash. Thakre was convinced and he agreed to organize the rituals.
The accused told Thakre that he will have to put some cash in a vase to attract money during the rituals. Thakre put Rs 1.50 lakh cash in the vase during the rituals held at his residence which the accused covered with a handkerchief.
The accused told the victim that they will have to go to the crossroads to keep a lemon to complete the rituals. Thakre accompanied them on a motorcycle, but after reaching the crossroads, they sent him home to get a coconut. On reaching home, the victim picked up the handkerchief and found that the cash was missing from the vase. There were only two boxes of cigarettes left there.
"We have arrested two accused involved in the racket. We are trying to nab the other two accused who have escaped to their native places," the police said.
Himmat Muniya, a native of Mudayda village in Dahod, and Subhash Varka Mavi, a resident of Patiya Navu Faliyu also in Dahod, were produced in a court here which remanded them in police custody for two days.
