SURAT: In an unusual incident, women residents of a society, mostly from Patidar community, surrounded Amroli police station on Saturday after police detained few men from the society for allegedly ransacking residence of a developer. The women were demanding quick release of men from their families.
A group of women surrounded the police station after which police cleared them to keep the road open for traffic movement. The women were demanding quick release of eight man, resident of Dhara Residency, who were arrested on Saturday. The accused men were booked on Friday after they ransacked residence of Mathur Panchani, developer of Dhara Residency.
The accused were arrested after the Panchani lodged a non-cognizable offence at Amroli police station on Thursday following ransacking at his office. The group of residence from Dhara residency were upset with Panchani since he sold houses in the project to people from other communities.
The Patidar residents in Dhara Residency alleged that Panchani had earlier sold houses claiming that he will sell residence to only Patidars. They claimed that they bought the house since Panchani promised them that the houses will be sold only to Patidars. They were objecting Panchani's move to sell houses to people from other communities.
On Thursday the residents ransacked office of Panchani after which the developer had approached police and lodged a non-cognizable complaint.
