Two rounds fired at Daman builder’s office

Surat: Unidentified miscreants on a motorcycle fired two rounds at the office of a former municipal councillor and real estate developer in Daman on Sunday evening.

The miscreants opened fire at the office of Nazir Dingmar, a former municipal councillor and leading developer of Daman, at around 7pm. No one was there in the office as it was closed. The office is located in a narrow and crowded lane, but the miscreants were able to escape on their motorcycle without getting caught since it was Sunday, police sources said.

Dingmar has been ill for the past few months and his business is being handled by his sons. He was kidnapped in 2016 by a gang from Aurangabad in Maharashtra, and Rs five crore ransom was demanded for his release. The gang members were later arrested by the police.

"We are registering a complaint against two persons on a motorcycle who had opened fire at the developer's office. No one was injured in the firing. We are investigating to find out who is behind the crime," said Nani Daman police station inspector Bharat Purohit.
