Surat: Residents lost over Rs10 lakh to thefts that took place on public roads in the Diamond City on Saturday. But no one has been arrested as yet.
Two unidentified persons were booked at Puna police station for allegedly stealing a small aluminium bag containing gold jewellery worth Rs7.81lakh lying in a car. The burglars broke the front door glass of Rajni Gajera's car parked near Balmukund Diamond Building on Puna Gam Road and escaped with the bag. Gajera, a property broker, had gone for some work leaving the aluminium bag with jewellery under the front seat of his car which was parked on the roadside.
"In our investigations we found that two men on a motorcycle came and escaped with the valuables left behind in the car. We are examining the CCTV footages to identify the suspects and their motorcycle," police said.
In another theft, Anirudhh Patel, an embroidery machine businessman, lost Rs2.15 lakh while going to railway station from Poddar Arcade in Varachha in an autorickshaw. Patel boarded an autorickshaw on a shared basis in which three passengers had already been sitting. It was five minute ride but the thieves still managed to escape with his money. Police are examining the CCTV footages to zero in on the autorickshaw.
Kishan Prajapati, a resident of Punagam, was crossing Ring Road when an unidentified person picked his pocket of Rs 65,800 on November 10. Prajapati lodged a complaint at Salbatpura police station on Saturday. He had saris samples in both his hands and the cash was in his trousers pocket, police said.
